Senator Melissa Melendez is the President of the Golden State Policy Council. Their mission is to advocate policy changes that work for practical free-market solutions to improve the lives of Californians. They educate legislators with academic policy research and solutions for the issues facing California.

Melendez is a veteran of the United States Navy. She attended the Monterey Defense Language Institute, became fluent in Russian, and was a Russian Language translator for 10 years. She was one of the first women to fly aboard an EP-3 reconnaissance aircraft overseas. Melissa served in the Navy during the Cold War, and was part of flight missions in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

After the Navy, Melissa worked at Chaminade University of Honolulu in Hawaii, and earned an MBA from the University of Phoenix, before founding a company contracting with high-level Pentagon officials. In 2008 she was elected to the Lake Elsinore City Council, and she served as Mayor. Melendez served in the California State Assembly from 2012-2020, and was then elected to the California State Senate. Melissa Melendez was named the Elected Woman of the Year by California Women Lead in 2018 for her outstanding work in public service. Her Senate District included the cities of Blythe, Canyon Lake, Cathedral City, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, Lake Elsinore, La Quinta, Murrieta, Temecula, Palm Desert, Palm Springs, and Rancho Mirage.

Melissa and her husband Nico, also a Navy veteran, live in Lake Elsinore with their five children. Please plan to attend, bring a friend.
