Byron was named National Speaker of the Year in 1996.

Bryon was the opening act with Phyllis Diller at the Purple Onion in San Francisco and for Mort Sahl at the Hungry Eye. He sang with the New Christy Minstrels and with Glen Yarborough and the Limelighters. He has appeared with Rosemary Clooney at the Tropicana in Las Vegas, was in the movie Starman with Jeff Bridges, and ABC Movie of the week “Country Gold” with Linda Hamilton and Lonnie Anderson.

Bryon’s skills developed during his years as a professional comedian, actor, and singer. His experience combined with a love of teaching make him a charismatic and powerful speaker.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Happy New Year! With the coming of 2019 wouldn't be wonderful if we could do one of Hillary's famous 'resets' and from this day forward the country would be united. Imagine the 2016 election results with the democrats disappointed but not psycho. People would understand that the dems taking back the house on the midterms wasn't the end of Trump's winning agenda. Perhaps both sides could come up with grand ideas for the country and 'compromise' was once again not a dirty word.

Nancy and Chuck would be dining with President Trump and Melania in the White House commenting on how lovely the trees had been at Christmas, especially the red ones. The silly talk about impeachment would be only a small chuckle before desert. All together they would plan the Big Beautiful Wall and even if Mexico didn't pay for it the security was worth every penny. Laws would be changed so people could legally come to the United States easier and quicker and become valued citizens. CNN and NBC would see the error of their ways and send a message that they were mistaken and do see how the Russian story was a hoax.....the world, at least the United States would be a better place, just like when we were kids.

Well, one could hope. It's a fresh start so let's see how it goes.

Mary Carter, President

SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS

At our December meeting, RMRWF was honored to host Marines from the 29 Palms Base. Thanks to the Armed Services of the YMCA for their coordination in organizing the Marines to Thunderbird Country Club.

And…thank you to our members who brought so many toys for the Marine children. Patrick Byrne, Director of the ASYMCA, was overwhelmed by your generosity. (See photo below.)

But, the biggest thank you goes to all of you who donated to the Marine families either through donation envelopes or purchased fundraiser tickets, including those who participated in the raffle and silent auction at the event. APPLAUSE to you! Through your generosity, we were able to donate Wal-Mart gift cards totaling $10,000.

The gift cards and toys were given to the most needy families at the ASYMCA holiday party.

SUNSHINE

Your Sunshine Chairman is requesting that you keep her informed of any and all occasions that need to be acknowledged by a card. Such things as births, deaths, marriages, health issues, happy and sad, all deserve recognition. If I don't hear from you, someone who could use a bit of cheering up would be overlooked. Let's don't let that happen. Just drop me a line or email me.

Many thanks,
Dodie Brocken
